As New Jersey Govenor Corzine discoverd not wearing a seatbelt can have serious consequences. All states except one Vermont have seatbelt laws aid a limiting injuries in car accidents. Failure to wear a seatbelt is a traffic violation and the failure to wear a seatbelt violation can be used against an injured accident victim in any lawsuit. Any injuries caused by the failure to wear a seatbelt would not be recoverable in any lawsuit.
