Archer Farms Potato Salad Recalled Due To Undeclared Milk

Garden-Fresh Foods Inc. is recalling 16-ounce containers of Archer Farms Potato Salad with an expiration date of October 4, 2009 because they may contain undeclared milk allergens.

People who have an allergy to milk are at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they unknowingly consume this product.

The recalled potato salad is marked with UPC code -0 85239 40228 3 and was distributed nationwide at SuperTarget stores.

Bean and Soy Sprouts Recalled Due To Possible Listeria Contamination

Chang Farm is voluntarily recalling Bean and Soy sprouts produced at Chang Farms with specific expiration date codes due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The recalled products are packaged 10 lb and 12 oz plastic bags, labeled under the Chang Farm Brand as Soy Sprouts and Bean Sprouts and both have a “Sell By” date of May 23 – 24, 2009.

The products were distributed to retail stores and restaurants throughout CT, MA, NJ and NY.

To date, there have been no reported illnesses.

It is estimated that every year in the United States 1,850 people become ill with Listeriosis. On average, 425 people die from the condition.

Pregnant women, young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are most vulnerable to Listeria. Symptoms of Listeriosis include, but are not limited to, fever, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Man Wins Malpractice Suit After Losing Part of Leg

A man from Baldwin, Wisconsin was awarded over $3 million for the loss of part of his left leg.

Jim Lang went to Dr. Gregory Estlund in 2003 after injuring his leg while working at a factory in Hammond. After failing to get relief, he returned to see Estlund at least four more times before seeing a specialist.

Lang was taken into surgery the day he went in to see the specialist because of reduced blood flow in his leg and muscle and nerve damage. After surgery Lang never regained feeling in the lower half of his left leg. He eventually had to have the bottom half of his leg amputated in 2004.

A jury in St. Croix awarded Lang $3.2 million for the malpractice suit against Dr. Estlund, finding the doctors treatment of the patient negligent.

Woman Died in Collision With Fire Truck in Queens

An collision between a car and a fire truck left one woman dead on Saturday, April 19. The car the woman was driving collided with the New York City fire truck which was on the way to stop a house from burning.

All six firefighters on the truck were hospitalized after the accident at an intersection in the Jamaica section of Queens.

The fire truck, from Engine Company 275, was responding to a fire at a three-story home when it was struck by Angela Johnson's vehicle. Johnson, 27, was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to the Fire Department, two of the six fire fighters have serious injuries, but all are being hospitalized at Long Island Jewish Hospital. The accident is currently being investigated.

Oriental Mascot Brand Sweetened Sliced Coconut Recalled Due to Undeclared Sulfites

Summit Import Corp., in conjunction with the FDA, is recalling Oriental Mascot Brand Sweetened Sliced Coconut because it contains undeclared sulfites. Consumers who are allergic or sensitive to sulfites can incur serious or life-threatening effects if this product is eaten.

The coconut in packaged in a 4 oz. plastic container and was distributed in New York and was produced in China. The problem was discovered after routine sampling by the New york State Dept. of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors. An analysis of the food revealed that there were undeclared nitrates in the coconut. So far there have been no illnesses reported to the company.

The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfites sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the "Oriental Mascot Brand Sweetened Sliced Coconut" revealed they contained 70 mg per serving.

The subprime mess show to what extremes the financial institutions will go to protect the bottom line.In what could be a a key ruling for those of us hoping to learn more about shady subprime lending practices, a bankruptcy judge has given New Century Financial until February 6 to turn over a report of an investigation into the firm's cash handling practices to bankruptcy monitors..This is an example of how things work. This mentality also effects people who are injured in crashes or by any someones negligence. The people with the money will go to any ends not to pay a fair amount on claims. Everyone should be aware of these facts.

Medical Malpractice Truths

The facts about medical malpractice need to be told. Most of the information that people believe are myths generated by the health care industry. The facts are astounding. Currently, attorneys and patients have no way of knowing who these bad doctors are because the National Practitioner Data Base's public use file conceals practitioners' personal information. Public Citizen urged Congress to lift the veil of secrecy which is used to hide doctors who are frequently accused of medical malpractice, especially considering the small percentage of doctors responsible for the majority of the malpractice committed in the United States. While 82% of doctors had not made a medical malpractice settlement payment since 1990, 5.9% of the others accounted for 57.8% of all medical malpractice payments since 1991. The "Truth" needs to be spread about all lawsuits and people need to be made aware of the myths and hoaxes that affect us all.
